Looking for:
Microsoft word 2016 spell check not working freeTurn spell check on or off.
I checked other posts with similar topics, but there seems to be no solution. The spellcheck does NOT work! When I click on "Check document", the "Editor" opens and shows zero errors. Sometimes, however, it actually shows a few, certainly not all.
The settings are all correct, but it does not spellcheck or check grammar, unless you start it with "Recheck document" under Settings, which is a colossal waste of time. Suddenly it finds errors, only to never close the "Editor" window anymore after all errors are fixed. Did anyone hear of a solution for this? It is getting useless.

I am an experienced Word user and don't need a tutorial on how to use the spell checker. The error I mentioned just recently popped up, its not a user error. Something was changed during an update and the change makes the spell checker useless. This is an error that needs to be fixed on the Microsoft side. Most experienced Word users are unfamiliar with the nuances of the Spelling Checker.
That is the preeminent resource on it. You may be the exception and not need it. Most users get problems with the proofing language. There may well be an error in the spelling checker. The following macro, which can be attached to the F7 key will bring up the legacy spell check dialog.
Show End Sub. Info on using this: Installing Macros. There are indications that at some point Micrsoft changes may make this not work, but it is working for me as of this writing. I don't really want to work with a macro.
I want the spell checker to work as usual and so it makes sense. Adding macros is not really a solution. The change happened after a Microsoft update and its obviously erroneous as I have seen quite a few people with the same problem. So we need Microsoft to fix this. They have been going around this for a while now, not even admitting that there is a problem.
Have you verified that the correct language has been applied to text and that "Do not check spelling or grammar" is NOT enabled? Remember that language is a character property in Word.
Note that Suzanne S. I keep repeating myself, though. I have made no changes, all my settings are as before and the issues emerged after some Microsoft update. I'm not seeing the problem here, but you could always try uninstalling the most recent updates.
For Office click-to-run installations, doing so will be a bit complex, though. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. I have the same question Report abuse. Thank you for your reply and your suggestion. Stefan Blom MVP. In reply to JanaUhlik's post on October 9, Do you see this in a particular document or in any document?
In reply to Stefan Blom's post on October 9, Thanks for your reply. It happens in all Word documents. The correct language has been applied and "Do not check I have looked at the article and it sure is interesting.
But it doesn't solve my problem. So I know it is not my computer and not my settings, which I rechecked. Any other ideas? In reply to JanaUhlik's post on October 10, If both new and old documents are affected, then something strange is going on, obviously. TerrieVan Buren. I have the same problem.
